A small Croatian village in Bosnia, located at the foot of two mountains - Križevac and Podbrdo, hence its name Medjugorje, became the site of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the early 80s and over several decades has turned into one of the most famous and visited shrines in the world. It was here on June 24, 1981, on the feast of St. John the Baptist, that four teenagers who went for a walk on the outskirts of the village saw a shining female figure with a child in her arms. The next day, at the same place, the luminous Lady revealed her name to the children (there were six of them then): "I am the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus." Since then, the Blessed Virgin Mary has continued to visit the visionaries to this day. That is, the apparitions continue, and this makes Medjugorje a unique shrine. Since 1987, the apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been occurring monthly, on the 25th. Some of the visionaries are visited by the Virgin Mary daily. The Mother of God reveals to them secrets concerning their own lives, the life of the parish to which they belong, and the whole world, "all people who seek to walk the path of holiness," as the Mother of God herself expressed.
